The main features of a Montessori kids bedroom
When designing a bedroom inspired by the Montessori method we have to consider that the child is at the heart of the project and that the space created should be:
- relaxing: for the walls of the room it’s better to choose neutral, light and warm colors, it’s also very important that windows let in natural light.
- neat: few elements and distinct areas in the room help the child to organize and explore the space independently and to distinguish the different moments of the day.
- child-friendly: games and objects must be on sight and within reach of the child so that he himself may choose his own path of play and learning.
Thanks to the project of little Eva we have already shown some ideas for the sleeping area and the space for personal care, now we will focus on the activity area.
The activity area in a Montessori kids bedroom
This space is intended to help developing child’s sensory, motor and cognitive abilities. From the first months it will be good to provide a comfortable carpet where to perform physical activities.
Perhaps not everyone knows that the body position is essential not only for child’s future posture but also for its concentration. In fact, if the child is not in a comfortable position he will never be able to concentrate properly and carry out his activities with continuity.
Table for activities
This is why Caroti has developed the “Step by Step” adjustable school desk: the support surface and the seat can be adjusted in 3 different heights that adapt as the child grows so that its feet can touch the floor and the elbows can rest on the surface.
The table represents an easy and comfortable playing surface always available to the child, both alone and in company. The edges should be rounded to avoid trauma during the various activities as in the Mignon game table with Rosa dei Venti inlay in the delicate Mahogany Fusion finish. The Mignon chair and stool are padded with a fun pirate inspired fabric that can be customized on request with other patterns and themes chosen by the customer.
Organized space
Games should have their place inside the room to keep it tidy and comfortable. It is also important that the child has free access to books.

The spacious Treasure Chest storage box for games has open shelves with a front railing so that games, books and baskets can easily be stored by the child himself. It can also be equipped with wheels to facilitate opening and moving when the child grows.
Motricity education in a Montessori kids bedroom
Not only books and handling, one of the foundations of the Montessori method is the incentive towards physical movement and psycho-motor development. Starting from these basics, Caroti has been offering since long time play areas as a furnishing accessory in kids bedrooms for both boys and girls.
The three-rod variable gym is equipped with ladder, climbing rope, rings and wall bars to recreate a complete and safe play area in the kids’ bedroom.
The structure of the gym is made entirely of solid wood and can have sizes ranging from 220 to 270 cm and customizable modules. To ensure stability and safety in the game the modules can be fixed either to the wall with brass brackets or to floor-to-ceiling brass anchors: this assembly system makes the gym adaptable to any space and to different heights.
Practice and play
And if you love adventure, take a look at the Brigantino game island with a walkable bridge and a real rotating rudder. Your children can shout “Let’s get ‘em, lads!” and feel like they are on a real pirates vessel. From the access ladders there are also 6 large drawers, easily accessible for the little ones, for storing toys and other objects.
In a suitable and safe environment, children are able to express their spontaneity, movement, interests and at the same time their parents may feel more relaxed in letting them free to move as they don’t risk getting hurt.
