Thanks to little Eva we have experienced how to personalize some furniture for children designed by Caroti into furnishings suitable for a kids bedroom inspired by the Montessori method. But let’s start from the beginning.
Maria Montessori was an Italian educator and researcher who dedicated her life to children and to the development of an educational method from 0 to 6 years based on the pillars of freedom and movement. According to the Montessori method it is necessary to create a special environment since the early childhood in which the different elements of furniture do respect the proportions of the child to encourage independence and ensure safety during the growth.
Montessori furniture is characterized by simple lines and an eco-sustainable approach that prefers natural materials such as wood and neutral colors such as white, gray and beige. Based on these requirements, we have customized our 3-heights adjustable cradle for the little Eva and the changing mat with removable shelves. The color chosen was white with a matte finish and satin nickel accessories.
Designing a kids bedroom with Montessori furniture – Sleeping space
(Thankfully) Eva immediately slept in her adjustable cot. The cot is equipped with an internal plane that can be placed on the special “high-medium-low” brackets according to the age of the child and his ability to get up.
In the high position in fact, the space below can be used as a storage compartment, accessible thanks to the removable side with bars. In addition, comfortable wheels have been added to facilitate her moving from her bedroom to her parents’.
Eva’s cradle has been customized both in the wood finish (white with a matt effect) and in the decorative elements: the classic naval round decoration has been replaced by one soft colored padding, coordinated with the rest of the bedroom.
When the kid is around 2 years, the bed with bars may become like a prison for a curious child who should experience his own autonomy. Therefore, instead of choosing a new bed, we have realized for Eva an alternative of the removable side with bars.
It’s a low removable railing that allows the child to get on and off by herself from the bed and at the same time protects her from falling while asleep. A teal green finish adds a more playful touch to the cot.
Designing a kids bedroom with Montessori furniture – The space for personal care
Here the child will associate the moments of hygiene and personal care that are connected to different moments of the day: start of the day, wearing pajamas to go to bed, etc.
For Eva was chosen a changing table with removable side shelves: very comfortable as additional support to have everything “at hand”. This comfortable changing table is equipped with 2 small drawers and 3 large drawers.
The dresser will be a good place to well distinguish the various garments and to allow the baby to take them by herself.
